History

The Whanganui Community Foundation began life in 1988 as the Trust Bank Wanganui Community Trust after the Government restructured the Trustee Savings Banks through the Trustee Banks Restructuring Act.  In 1994 and again in 1996, along with the other community trusts, the Trust sold its shares and thus ended any relationship with the former Trust Bank.

The proceeds of the sale of shares were invested and continue to provide the income used by the Whanganui Community Foundation to make grants, provide professional development and other activities for the community.

In 2000 the Trust changed its name to Whanganui Community Foundation.  Whanganui reflects a desire to identify with the region and to be accessible to all people in the region.  
Community is there because the best interests of the community must be at the centre of all we do.
Foundation is about providing the building blocks for a strong community, and being solid in all we do.

Trustees

Prue Anderson, Chair.

Was appointed as a trustee in 2006.

Besides her role as Chair, Prue is a member of the Personnel Committee and the Investment, Audit and Compliance Committee.

Prue is a self employed Chartered Accountant.

Graham Adams

Was appointed as a trustee in 2008
Graham is a retired bank manager and investment advisor.
He is actively involved in Grey Power at both local and national levels
Graham lives in Wanganui

Philippa Baker-Hogan

Philippa was appointed as a trustee in 2009.
Philippa is also a Wanganui District Councillor and is a member of the Whanganui District Health Board.
Philippa is a small Business Owner/Practice Manager
She is a keen sportswoman and lives in Wanganui

Caryl Blomkvist

Caryl was appointed as a trustee in 2009
Caryl worked as a supervising solicitor for 9 years for the local Community Law Centre and now works as an advocate in employment law
Caryl lives at Upokongaro

Jenny Duncan

Jenny was appointed to the Board in 2011
Jenny qualified as a chartered accountant and after practising has chosen to move into business and performance coach.
Jenny is the President of the Chamber of Commerce and established the Enterprising Women network in Whanganui

Dot McKinnon

Dot was appointed to the Board in 2011
Dot is also a member of the Powerco Wanganui Trust and regional Lotteries Grants Board. She has former local Government experience having been Deputy Mayor
She lives in Whanganui

Richard Millward

Richard was appointed to the Board in 2011 
Richard is a chartered accountant and certified financial planner. He has had considerable governance experience both in the public and private sectors. 
He lives in Whanganui

Sally Sisson

Sally was appointed as a trustee in 2005 and reappointed in 2009
Sally works in Waverley as a forestry manager and project manager.
She lives in Patea where she has a small farm.

Alaina Teki Clark

Alaina was appointed to the board in 2011 
She is a self employed businesswoman with interests in the hospitality and fuel industries. 
Alaina has also been involved in community organisations including being Chair of Women's Refuge

Graham Wood

Graham was appointed as a trustee in 2004 and reappointed in 2008.
Graham chairs the Investment, Audit and Compliance Committee and is a member of the Personnel Committee.
Graham is a self employed insurance and investment consultant.
He lives in Whanganui
