Whanganui Community Foundation Trustees & Personnel

Dr Mike Paki (Chair)

From Ngāti Apa, with whakapapa connections on the Awa Tipua, Mike was appointed to the Board in 2019. His background is varied having worked in the Public Service sector and Academia. He is now self employed working in the Education Sector working across all levels. He lives in Te Ara Taumaihi (Bulls).

 

Mary Bennett

 

Carla Doolan

Carla was appointed to the board in 2021. Carla is the Accounting and Administration Manager at Winstone Pulp International and part of the Senior Management Group. She has been with WPI since 2000. Carla and her husband Hamish run a diversified farming operation at Karioi, Ohakune. She was born and educated in Taihape and is affiliated to local Iwi. Carla has been involved as a player, coach and executive in sports and recreational clubs in the Waimarino, Taihape, Rangitikei and Whanganui regions.

 

Rachel Hoskin

Rachel resides in the Waimarino area in Ruapehu and has strong links to Whanganui having gained her degree here back in the late 90s. Rachel has a more recent history in funding procurement for community and iwi and is the Chair of the Raetihi Community Charitable Trust. After a long career in Higher Education management she now works in professional funding procurement in the community group sector as well as assisting businesses in the Ruapehu region in business diversification.

 

Annette Main

Annette brings expertise in governance and community gained from eighteen years of leading local and regional government, over thirty years self-employment in retail and tourism, involvement in local and regional enterprise, and chair and director roles which contribute to the well-being of communities.

Current roles include Te Karewao, an advisory role with Te Pou Tupua, Trustee Sarjeant Gallery and Whanganui Regional Museum

Kevin Ross

Kevin has an extensive Local Government background having served over 40 years with the Whanganui District Council. Initially employed as a regional planner, Kevin worked his way through the organisation ultimately serving as Chief Executive for 7 years before retiring at the end of 2015. In his various roles with the Council, he has had considerable experience in working with most parts of the community and in later years he focused on developing genuine and committed partnerships with local Iwi. Kevin currently chairs the Tararua District Council Audit and Risk Committee.

He has a long history of involvement with a variety of sports both as a participant and administrator. He represented New Zealand in badminton and was also the National Badminton Convenor of Selectors. He served on Sport Whanganui and the Whanganui Community Sports Centre Committee for a number of years.

Kevin currently chairs the Bushy Park Tarapuruhi Trust Board and is a member of the Peke Waihanga (Artificial Limb Service Crown Entity) Board. He continues to work for Y Central, Herenga A Nuku (Outdoor Access Commission) and Te Araroa Trail Trust.

Kevin and his wife Jill have two children, Christopher and Caitlin and is delighted to have one mokopuna William!

John was appointed to the board in 2013. John lives in Marton.
